On every new-member onboarding call, the same thing happens. The first sentence out of a clinician's mouth is how many years they have been doing this, the credential slid across the table to justify being in the room. Then a few minutes in, once they stop reciting the resume, the real thing comes out: what they love teaching, the idea that has been rattling around for years, the offer they think failed when they were only ever missing the marketing. This episode is about that gap, because most clinicians are selling the wrong thing entirely, and it is not their fault.

Mellanie Page (BCBA, MBA) makes the case that you are selling a result, not your credentials, your hours, or your 12 modules. Three parts:

  • Your dream client is buying a result, not your resume. When someone comes to you, they have exactly one question: can this person get me the thing I want? They want the problem gone. And, brace yourself, they have zero loyalty to your credentials. That sounds harsh until you realize it is freedom. You do not need more letters after your name. You need a clearer result.
  • Selling the result is unnatural for clinicians specifically, and here is why. We were trained inside insurance and billable hours. We bill units, sessions, time. The system taught us that what we sell is our labor, one hour equals one unit of value. So the second we build something online, we default to selling time and tasks: a six-week program, 12 modules, weekly calls. Nobody lies awake wishing for more weekly calls. They want the result those things produce.
  • So lead with the outcome, every time. Not your process, not your credentials, not how many weeks it takes. What will be true for them on the other side? The clearer the result, the more the right people self-select, and the easier it becomes to charge what it is actually worth. Price the hours and you are capped by the clock. Price the result and you are priced on the value of the transformation. Those are very different numbers.

Then three things to do this week: tally how much of your current offer description is deliverables, modules, and years of experience versus the actual result, then rewrite it to lead with the result; finish the sentence "by the end of working with me, you'll finally ______" out loud, because whatever fills that blank is what you are truly selling; and catch the billable-hour reflex, so any time you are about to price based on how long something takes you, stop and reprice it on what the result is worth to them.

This one is for clinicians (BCBAs, SLPs, OTs, therapists, and allied health professionals) who keep describing what they do, when their dream client only ever cared about what they would get.
